As the oldest child of my three boys, I feel that it is important that my son Garid becomes a positive role model for his younger brothers. Since he was born I have taken an active role to enrich his development by exposing him to language, culture, literature, music, and the arts. When Garid was an infant we always spoke to him using proper grammar rather than “baby talk”. We always have a variety of music, which includes classical, playing around the house. I currently play classical music while helping him with homework, and children’s songs during play time. While driving in the car with the children, we only listen to age appropriate children’s music like The Wiggles, Lori Burkner, Mr. Ray, or music from some of the live children’s shows that we have seen. We spend our long road trips talking, answering Garid’s questions, listening to music, singing, or telling traditional tales like Little Red Riding Hood. Sometimes we even mix up a few stories for a good laugh! We have recently enjoyed listening to stories on CD in the car.
I also try to enrich my children through our everyday routines. We make sure that we sit down for dinner as a family EVERY night, and begin with prayer. Garid enjoyed his job as the one to say the dinner prayer since he was two years old, and now shares the responsibility by taking turns with his 3 year old brother. During dinner we talk about our day, what we learned, and a variety of topics. I have been reading stories to Garid before going to bed since he was in my belly. We continue this tradition, and sometimes Garid will read a bedtime story to his brothers. We recite prayers before bedtime and attend church every Sunday.
I have always tried to expose Garid to a lot of different learning experiences. We spend most of our free time taking day trips or going to live shows. Our favorites include interactive children’s museums, farms, aquariums, the zoo, the library, story time at book stores, the art gallery, various amusement parks, festivals, live children’s shows, plays in the park, theater, spending the day at the pool or beach, cultural restaurants (Garid loves to eat Sushi with chopsticks!), and concerts.
We also try to keep Garid involved in extracurricular activities to keep him active and healthy, like swim lessons and Karate. I also think that it is important to encourage and support Garid in his talents, and the things he loves to do. Since Garid has a passion and natural talent for theater and the arts, we enrolled him in a theater camp for a few weeks. I also make sure to spend time at home working on arts and crafts together.
I truly believe that in order for our children to develop a love for learning and be successful in school, we as parents need to be involved as much as possible. I have made it a goal to stay involved since Garid began school when he was 3year old. I get involved with his education by trying to attend all school meetings, workshops, functions and activities, communicating with his teachers and friends, and serving as the PTO Vice President. I hope that seeing me help at school will build his character, help him to develop a positive attitude about school, and a lifetime love for learning!

Ceres School Parent of the Month

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7QGgq3-yMzQ/TUg_ySy0nvI/AAAAAAAAACo/g06kC0IKc4U/s320/Ceres%2BParent%2Bof%2Bthe%2BMonth.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5568771072514629362" />
Hello, let me start by introducing myself. My name is Jozsef Piri. I am Daniel Piri’s father, a couple of years ago my neighbor Henry who is also a parent at the Anthony V. Ceres School asked me if I can help the school with a yearly project. Of course, I immediately said yes because I love getting involved in my child’s education. The project was to help them build a Haunted House for the students and to raise money for student’s activities such as Field Day. Since then, I became more involved in the school. I come to all the PTO meetings and to their monthly activities which I truly enjoy. As a parent I know how important it is for my child to see that I care about his education; Since, I started getting more involved my child’s grade went up as well as his school enthusiasm. I like to thank the Ceres school PTO for giving me the opportunity to have fun with my child and learn together at their monthly activity. I am very proud to have been chosen as the parent of the month. It is a pleasure having my child at the Anthony V. Ceres School.

The District Diversity Council Gives Back to the Community

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7QGgq3-yMzQ/TROHYXXNt1I/AAAAAAAAACM/VwEHc-Khu6I/s320/District%2BFood%2BDrive%2B010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5553931618135947090" />
The District Diversity Council and the Office of the Assistant Superintendent conducted their 2nd annual food drive for the Salvation Army in Perth Amboy.
