Perth Amboy High School Student's T-Shirt Design Voted #1


Congratulations to JohnLuke Chaparro (Grade 11 student at Perth Amboy High School), the 1st place winner in the annual Raritan Bay Anglers Club T-Shirt Design contest. Each year the club selects from a group of designs to place on their t-shirt worn by participants in their annual Fluke Tournament. This year JohnLuke's design will appear on the shirts during the tournament on July 17, 2010.

Perth Amboy Public Schools Annual Battle of the Books


Students from the district's five elementary schools visited Perth Amboy High School to compete in the finals of the annual Battle of the Books. The program provides students with an incentive to read. The battle starts in each 4th grade classroom at each of the elementary schools. Teams of three compete against each other after they have read the same list of books provided to them. Each classroom winner then competes against other classroom winners in their respective school. Finally, each 4th grade team that prevails competes against the other elementary school teams.

This year the Edward J. Patten School team consisting of Monica Santiago, Kristen Vazquez & Leanna Perez took first place in the event. Congratualtions to all who participated! Everyone portrayed their love for reading throughout the competition.

Flag Day at the James J. Flynn School


Students of the James J. Flynn School were joined by veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces and other distinguished guests for their annual Flag Day Ceremony on June 14, 2010. The entire school gathered outside to watch the program consisting of the singing of patriotic songs, led by the Flynn School 4th grade. Bagpipers were also a part of the program which was the culmination learning about and recognizing the U.S. Veterans throughout the course of the school year.

Ceres School Students Win in Stock Market Game


The Anthony V. Ceres School has placed 1st and 2nd out of 90 teams in the Stock Market Game spring session 2010. Students received awards of recognition for their significant achievement during a ceremony at Pershing LLC in Jersey City today. The first place team is from MaryLou Smith's class (Students: Jeremy Barreto, Kayla Gonzalez, Francisco LaPaz & Aylin Velez) and the second place team is from Merita Euell's class (Students: Perla Corcino, Isaiah Johnson, Christian Reyes & Joshua Reyes)(both 4th grade). Lead by advisor and Ceres School Math Specialist Chris Ayers, the 1st place team aquired a hypothetical equity of $112,840.19 and the 2nd place team aquired $111,660.46.

The Stock Market Game is an online educational activity for students that has served more than 12 million young people in grades 4-12 since its inception in 1977. The game introduces students to the financial markets with its integrated curriculum as they learn math, economics and the importance of long-term saving and investing. Teams of 3-5 participants invest a hypothetical $100,000 in real stocks, bonds and mutual funds, learning cooperation, communication and leadership as they manage their portfolio. The Stock Market Game is provided by the SIFMA Foundation for Investor Education.

Perth Amboy High School: Friday, June 25th at 6:00 p.m. at Waters Stadium
